OHS Merger 

We have exciting news! Effective July 1, we have merged with Oregon Humane Society. 

We’ve compiled detailed information, including a list of FAQs, on this page. If you have additional questions we haven’t answered here, please send a note to salemdevelopment@oregonhumane.org. We’d love to help!

Holiday and Other Closures

Shelter services (such as adoptions, dog training classes, and spay/neuter surgeries) begin with appointments. If we must cancel an appointment due to a closure, we will contact you directly.

If we must close the shelter or the Thrift Store due to an unexpected issue, we will update this page. If you don’t see an alert here, things are running normally.

Visitation Hours Are Available

Our hours of operations have changed! Appointments are still required, but we are now open from 10am-7pm 7 days/week. Learn more here.

Item donations can be dropped off 7 days a week at the donation bin in front of the shelter. No appointment needed–just leave your donations in the bin! Tax receipts are available. 

Most Services Start with Appointments

We offer appointments Monday through Sunday from 10:30am a.m. to 6:30 p.m. In general, you will need an appointment to surrender an animal or bring in a stray pet. Visit the pages we’ve linked for more information. If you have a question we haven’t addressed there, contact us at 503-585-5900, ext. 300.

Typically, you also need an appointment to adopt a pet. However, we have a few adoption appointments available during visitation hours. We can’t guarantee that we will have spots available or that the pet you want is available for same-day adoption. When in doubt, it’s best to make an appointment. Thank you for understanding.
