Shelter News and Alerts
WHS and WHS Merger
We have exciting news! Willamette Humane Society will merge into Oregon Humane Society on July 1.
We’ve compiled detailed information, including a list of FAQs, on this page. If you have additional questions we haven’t answered here, please send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to help!
Holiday and Other Closures
Shelter services (such as adoptions, dog training classes, and spay/neuter surgeries) begin with appointments. If we must cancel an appointment due to a closure, we will contact you directly.
If we must close the shelter or the Thrift Store due to an unexpected issue, we will update this page. If you don’t see an alert here, things are running normally.
Visitation Hours Are Available
On Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., visit adoptable pets, ask questions, and otherwise visit us. We know many of you want to visit us more frequently, and we’re working to meet that need! We’ll make an announcement soon.
Item donations can be dropped off 7 days a week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the donation bin in front of the shelter. No appointment needed–just leave your donations in the bin! Tax receipts are available.
Most Services Start with Appointments
We offer appointments Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In general, you will need an appointment to surrender an animal or bring in a stray pet. Visit the pages we’ve linked for more information. If you have a question we haven’t addressed there, contact us at 503-585-5900, ext. 300.
Typically, you also need an appointment to adopt a pet. However, we have a few adoption appointments available during visitation hours. We can’t guarantee that we will have spots available or that the pet you want is available for same-day adoption. When in doubt, it’s best to make an appointment. Thank you for understanding.
Other Shelter Services Are Available
We are here to help and support you:
- The downtown WHS Thrift Store is open for shopping and donations. Click here for additional information and current hours.
- The WHS Spay and Neuter Clinic is open by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are performing spay/neuter surgeries for free-roaming, unowned cats by appointment.
- Our Behavior and Training Team is holding classes here at the shelter, and private lesson options are available too.
