Rachel Backer here, and I want to share with you some really special folks.
Today I had the special pleasure of meeting two students at Blanchet High School who recently orchestrated a Pet Supply Drive benefiting Willamette Humane Society as a Senior Service Project.
I was blown away by their gifts! Over $1100.00 worth of wonderful supplies; I couldn’t fit all of it in just one picture! They mentioned to me that even they couldn’t have anticipated this turnout, and were very happy to bring it all in to us!
Thanks for everything Cassie and Sydney, and to the community that rallied with them to collect these items! They will DEFINITELY be put to good use!
This comes right after a visit from the Whitaker Middle School Leadership Class, who came in this past weekend with lots of goodies for our shelter animals as well!
Look at these big grins and these BAGS and BAGS of toys and treats and amazing contribution to the shelter!
And who can forget the sweetest 4H group that came in? Kids of many ages came together and spent time creating thoughtful and very useful toys for our dogs. Enrichment is key at WHS, and toys give these dogs something to do when being in a shelter gets boring. They are very thankful for the extra fun!
During these, as well as many other great donations this month, we have gotten over 200 cans of wet food for dogs and cats, raw hides and bones, hundreds of toys, cat litter, kibble and supplies.
This is going to help us out a lot over the next few weeks!
Call me a little bias, but I just LOVE seeing this amazing giving, especially from some of our young community members! I am truly humbled to be a part of such an amazing village that stands behind our animals. You matter to us more than we could ever put in words!
(If you’re a parent interested in getting your children involved in our shelter and learning more about what we do and how we help animals, AND would like a night out in the process, head on over to our Parents Night Out, where you can bring your children to the shelter for a night of fun while you are away having a night out! Rachel enjoys connecting with customers, hearing their stories and happy tails, getting to know the members of our community, both 4 legged and otherwise, and posting to Willamette Humane Society's social media pages, sharing stories of the good stuff happening here.
When she isn't at work, Rachel spends her time covered in cat fur with her 4 (almost 5) kids, 3 cats, 1 dog, darling husband and a partridge in a pear tree.
