Cole and Marmalade. Some of my favorite internet cats! It’s lengthy but informative and adorable
Friday Aug 28th we are hosting Yappy Hour here at the shelter from 5-7pm! This is an extra special Yappy Hour honoring those dedicated volunteers who gave us so much of time and energy to bring project fence to life! Bring your dog and your friends, and your friend’s dogs. Have a beer, eat some food, and let the dogs run around making new friends. Hey you could even make a new friend. I will be there and I would love to see you there too! If you would like to volunteer to help with set up of this event please let me know!
Bring your refundable bottles and cans for DIG. We are so thrilled to get sound reducing materials for stray dogs but in order to do that we need some funds! DIG is going to help pay for that so bring your cans and bottles, ask your friends and neighbors as well. Bring them with you to Yappy Hour tomorrow!
Donations collected at Yappy Hour will contribute to the cost of these materials as well.
Ailurophile is the “love of cats”
Thank you for all the work you are putting into Kitten Kaboodle to make it a success and relieve some of the work from staff so we can focus on the animals coming in here!
Barb and Monte Turner
Thank you for jumping in where we need help the most, kennel cleaning when short staffed, playgroups when short staffed, DIG bottle and can returns and whatever else we ask. You are much appreciated!!
Kimmi will be on vacation from 9/2-9/9 and will return on 9/10. Anna will be filling in during my absence.
Do not place dirty or used litterboxes, stools, beds, towels, blankets etc. on the counters. They need to be taken directly to the dirty laundry, left in kennels if they are kuranda beds, or taken straight to the dirty laundry. This will reduce the spread of disease. Every item we touch and the animals touch has the potential to carry disease from one spot to the next. Let’s be mindful of that and play it safe. Thank you everyone for taking the health of the kitties seriously and making it a priority to be clean.

I heard today that Bowser’s Boo Bash is right around the corner, it may seem like there is a lot of time but it’s quickly disappearing. I don’t know about you, but my weeks fly by with as much fun as I am having here. It’s going to be party time before we know it. One step at a time Kimmi! Hello! I am Anna Schumacher (please call me anything but that…Schumie, Annaschu, Cupcake…get creative) I am the new volunteer coordinator to assist the Volunteer Manager. I am a military spouse and a voice teacher! I love to adopt and foster rescue animals, go hiking, fishing, wilderness exploring, craft, and cook! I am a little shy but once I’m comfortable you can’t shut me up! Please come say hi I’m so excited to work with our dedicated volunteers!
With so much going on with the dogs at WHS (playgroup, behavior training, camps, etc.), it sometimes becomes difficult to remember what dog you are taking out and what kennel s/he is in. As of Thursday, September 3, we are going to try to have a new system to help you remember the dogs and their location. There is going to be a badge holder card in the halter container or clipped to the kennel information at each kennel. On it will be the color code for the location of the kennel (A dogs, Strays, Infirmary, etc.) and the number of the kennel. The color code is on the top of the index card container. On the card in the card holder will be hand printed the dog’s name that is staying in that particular kennel. When you go to harness the dog, please take the card and put it in your apron pocket or clip it to your apron. If you turn the dog over to someone (like in playgroup or for some other reason) give the card in the badge holder to the person so they know which dog it is and where s/he is to go. Once back at the kennel, place the card back in the halter container, along with the halter or clip it back on the plastic information on the door.
There is going to be a plastic index box containing marker pens, extra cards, and color tabs. If the card is badly damaged, please fill out a new one put it in the badge holder and put it in the halter container. The card is to stay with the kennel. When a dog is moved or adopted, etc. Cross the name off the card and write down the new dog’s name. We hope this will help keep track of halters, dogs, and provide less confusion, when you are trying to get all the dogs out and can’t remember who you took out last or what his or her name is. If you have any questions, please contact Barb Cash email@example.com or if you have suggestions to make it better. Thanks for your help with this.
It is with a very heavy heart that I write this letter. I will be resigning from WHS as volunteer manager. My last day will be Monday 9/14/15.
I have an opportunity with another organization that I just cannot pass up. It was a very difficult decision for me as I care so deeply for WHS and all that it embodies. I live for the values and culture of this organization. I love the mission and support it whole heartedly. The staff is full of people with the biggest hearts I have ever met, an abundance of talent, and tons of potential.
I will miss you all dearly but I will not be far away. As some of you know I have begun the move to a new house in SE Portland. Coming to visit me would be an excellent reason to explore Portland further! I hope to be considered as a resource in the future. Call me for help or with questions or even just to vent. I am here for you all.
I cannot thank you all enough for the experiences and memories that have come from my 4 years here. I have so much to look back and smile about and to be proud of. I have learned more here than I ever did in school and even more than I did in 7 years at T-Mobile. I appreciate you all immensely. This will not be the last of me you see.
If you have any questions feel free to come see me.
I finally put up some pics. I put up a cute one of Radar. One of Vinny and good friend of his. I even put one up of River a puppy I fostered who got adopted and is now 100lbs of love!
Have you put up your happy tails photos? There is still time. We would like that 50 to be filled with happiness!
We are looking for volunteers for this Sunday August 30th from 3pm-6pm, as well as help for upcoming weekends. There is a schedule available to review openings and there is pretty much an opening on each weekend from now through October. Times are usually 12-3 and then 3-6pm.
Please E mail BJ Martinez at firstname.lastname@example.org to get added to the list to help out.
The training is easy peasy and it’s the happiest place in all of Salem! We hope to hear from you soon!
