Kimmi’s Fact of the Week:
Collectively, kittens yawn about 200 million times per hour.
If you are uploading new pictures of pets into petpoint be aware of the current picture and note if it has a border that says “sponsored” on it. If we upload a picture and remove that border the person who paid for the sponsorship will not understand what has happened and may not want to sponsor with us in the future . Those sponsorships help us pay for the animals stay. If you have a better picture to use please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org and she will add the border and upload it for you in this case. Thanks guys.
Please remember that if an animal’s kennel has a sign on it that says “STAFF ONLY” that it is only for staff to handle. This includes anything that says “BITE QUARANTINE”. This also means staff is to do the cleaning on those kennels. It may not always be apparent why these animals are a staff only but we always have a good reason. We are trying to protect everyone from unpredictable animals or animals with certain medical conditions. If you are unsure about it please see a staff member.
Just another reminder not to talk about animals that are in back of the house as these animals are not available for adoption for a reason. It is not fair to the customers to get their hopes up about an animal when we don’t have all the facts about why that animal is not up for adoption at this time. If a customer persists about an animal they saw or heard about that is not available please direct them to any staff member.

Melissa, Ben, Kamryn, and Jonathan!
Thank you to Melissa Nash, Ben & Kamryn Davidson, and Jonathan Comden! You guys took a day that was extremely overwhelming, bogged down, and just plain hard for me and you turned it around. I cannot thank you enough for helping me enter my weekend with a smile and some peace of mind!

Did you know that dogs laugh? I am sure you have all heard this sound before if you have a playful pooch. It’s one of my favorite sounds ever! Check it out for yourself.

- I am looking for more playgroup runners still! We would love help from Red/Blue tag walkers but we will happily take help from any trained dog walker! If you can pick up even an extra hour a week to help us get the dogs out please send me an e mail and let me know!
New opportunities abound within the newly organized Behavior Program Department at WHS! We’re excited to introduce you to Catherine Comden https://whs4pets.org/services/behavior-training/our-trainers/ our new Behavior Program Manager. She’s going to have a regular corner of our newsletter to inform you about upcoming opportunities and adventures. This week, we’d like to highlight NEW CLASSES! https://whs4pets.org/services/behavior-training/dog-training-classes/ for class descriptions. Register your own dog and have fun while supporting the shelter! Tell a friend! Also, starting February 7th, we’ll have a new Saturday playgroup for shelter and public dogs from 2-4pm. We need runners and a scribe. If you’ve never done playgroup before, no worries – we’ll train you! Don’t miss out on this fun session where you’ll learn a ton about canine body language and give the dogs a much needed break from the stress of the kennels. (Open Paw level 1,2, and 3, also known as dog walk/handling classes, are a pre-requisite for any playgroup shift)
Download the Wooftrax App on your phone and register your walking for WHS and Wooftrax will donate for every mile you walk your dogs. Volunteers… that’s a lot of walking you are doing, imagine your volunteering to walk dogs is also bringing in money for those very same dogs! To learn more check out their website https://www.wooftrax.com/.

Students loved the learning and sharing which occurred in the Chemeketa classes. One student said the best part of the course was “Being able to learn from, and share with, not only the instructor, but the other students as well. I love that she set up a Facebook group and Flickr page to keep us all connected between classes.” Join us and see what you’ve been missing! Contact Catherine@SensibleK9.com with questions.
