SALEM, OREGON – [SEPTEMBER 16, 2021] – On Saturday, September 18th, more than 40 adoptable cats and kittens will be available for adoption at PetSmart in Salem, Oregon. The Clear the Shelter 2021 event is a partnership between Willamette Humane Society (WHS) and PetSmart Charities, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

WHS staff will be available at PetSmart between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Staff can answer questions, complete adoption paperwork, and help families get off to a good start caring for their newest family member.

WHS will offer special pricing during the event. Families that choose two cats will pay nothing for the cat with the smaller adoption fee.

“We know that some cats do best with a feline family member,” said Jean Dion, WHS Communications Manager. “Two cats can keep themselves entertained all day while their families are at work. And there’s nothing cuter than two tired kittens cuddled together at the end of a long day.”

WHS has operated on an appointment-only basis since the pandemic made an impact in Oregon in March of 2020. Many cats and kittens have been adopted through this system. Some families prefer to meet many cats and kittens all at once to find the perfect match for their family. Events like this one fill that need.

“This is a unique opportunity for people to connect with adoptable cats and kittens in person,” said Heidi Fulcher, Adoption Grants Manager at PetSmart Charities. “The tail end of kitten season is approaching, when so many young, vulnerable kittens need shelter and nourishment. We’re happy to welcome our partner, the Willamette Humane Society, to the PetSmart location in Salem to help Clear the Shelters.”

“We hope to see many families come to PetSmart during this special event to meet and adopt a furry family member,” Dion said.
