As the year comes to a close, many of you are looking for ways to make a difference for pets in our community. We have 10 ideas you can use to support pets and the people who love them. And if you don’t find an option that’s right for you, send a note to development@whs4pets.org. We’d love to collaborate with you.
Sponsor a Pet
Recognize someone special by name. A pet sponsorship is designed to help a shelter dog or cat get a little more attention from potential families. The name you choose (first name, last name, nickname, etc.) will go on a colorful frame around a shelter pet’s photo. And we’ll select a few sponsorships for social media posts.
Sponsor a Kennel
For an animal waiting inside the shelter, a kennel is a home. Your gift puts the name you choose on a cat kennel or dog run. You could also sponsor a room or suite within the shelter. Your sponsorship lasts for an entire year, so this is a gift that keeps on giving.
Shop the Amazon Wish List
Put a few extra items in your shopping cart and help pets in our community. Our often-updated Amazon Wish List contains a selection of items for dogs, cats, and shelter workers. Find an item (or two) that fits your budget, and Amazon will ship directly to us. This is a quick and easy way to make a meaningful donation.
Bring a Gift to the Shelter
Buy a gift from our Wish List, and bring it to the shelter for the dogs and cats. Deliver your gift on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2 and 5 p.m., and you’ll be part of our visitation hours. Stay and say hello to a few adoptable pets. If those times don’t work for you, use our donation bin located next to our front doors. Drop off anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. We have donation forms for tax purposes.
Join the Golden Hearts Club
Become a monthly donor and support dogs and cats all year round. Your donations come to the shelter automatically, so you won’t have to remember to make your donation. At the end of the year, you’ll get a detailed report for tax purposes.
Donate Your Vehicle
Your car or truck could support dogs, cats, and the people who love them. Your donation is quick and easy. We’re proud to partner with Donate for Charity, Inc. to manage our vehicle donation process. As our program partner, Donate for Charity, Inc. will arrange for your car to be picked up and handle all the issues associated with the donation.
Donate From Your Paycheck
Every hour you spend on the clock could help to support shelter pets. Ask your employer about workplace giving programs. A bit of funds from each check goes to help WHS. And some employers offer matching donation programs, so your generosity goes even further.
Adopt a Pet
Complete your family by adopting a pet in need. Meet adoptable pets during our visitation hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2 and 5 p.m. Look over adoptable pets anytime via our website. We have many animals looking for homes for the holidays.
Visit the Thrift Store
Our Thrift Store in downtown Salem provides a critical source of support for the shelter. There are two ways you can support the work. Donate new or gently used items that we can sell in the shop. Or visit us and take home a treasure or two.
Make a Tribute Gift
Honor your loved ones with a donation benefiting WHS. Make a donation as a tribute for, or in memory of, a loved one or pet. The beneficiary or next of kin will be notified, and your tribute donation will appear in an upcoming edition of Brief Paws, our seasonal magazine.
